Stand-up comics are usually pictured on a comedy club stage with a brick wall behind them. However, the reality is that today's stand-up comics are just as likely to be performing on cruise ships, in corporate meeting rooms, in private rented halls . . . even in churches! This is because stand-up entertainment is so versatile and technically simple that it can take place in nearly any setting with good results.
Just as there are many different types of settings, so are there many types of stand-up comics. Sometimes people have a stereotypical view of the stand-up comic--the abrasive guy in blue jeans and a baseball cap, the Phyllis Diller wannabe. While some performers certainly fit these stereotypes, the truth is that the world of stand-up comics is a far more diverse place.
