Jaboukie Young-White was raised in Harvey, Illinois. He later attended Marian Catholic High School where he participated in Speech and Theatre before studying at DePaul University, from where he ultimately left in his senior year to pursue his comedy career.
Young-White performed stand-up for the first time at an open mic night when he was 19; he was hired for his first stand-up gig when he was 21. He continued to perform stand-up at several bars and clubs around Chicago and New York City, and was a finalist at the 2016 NYC Devil Cup Stand Up Festival.
Beginning in late 2016, several of his memes, tweets, and posts went viral with the young people. He subsequently gained prominence on social media, particularly on Twitter and Instagram, where he grew a large following.
Fast forward to today where Jaboukie Young-White is the millennial correspondent for The Daily Show w/Trevor Noah—or, as the chyron once read, an “actual young person.” He appeared in the Sony feature Rough Night, directed by Lucia Aniello, and the Netflix feature Set It Up, directed by Claire Scanlon.
He was selected as a Comic to Watch at New York Comedy Festival in 2017, was named one of Vulture/New York Magazine’s Comedians You Should and Will Know in 2017, was selected as an Up Next comedian for Comedy Central’s Clusterfest, and was named one of Rolling Stone’s 25 Under 25.
Most recently, he was named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2018 and performed at its Comics to Watch showcase at Just For Laughs in Montreal. He has performed stand-up on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and recently taped his half hour for Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents. Jaboukie was also a regular on the final season of HBO’s Crashing. Previously, Jaboukie was a staff writer on Netflix’s TV shows Big Mouth and American Vandal.
